Insights Gathered from 2023 Workforce Survey

December 15, 2023

The Institute for Workforce Excellence (IWE) and Indiana Chamber of Commerce recently published data from the 16th annual employer workforce survey, which includes responses from 1,000-plus Hoosier employers.

Key insights from the survey include more optimistic results than in 2023. Forty-two percent of employers indicated that finding/retaining talent is still their biggest challenge, but the number is 10% lower compared to last year’s responses.

Over the last two years, employers reporting that the supply of qualified applicants does not meet their needs dropped from 72% in 2021 to 52% in 2023. Sixty-five percent of those surveyed either already do so or want to learn more about steps needed to assess or test employees based on the actual competencies or skills needed for the position.
